Se invece hai un server (senza monitor e tastiera) puoi dare, a chi lo usa, la possibilita' di spegnerlo la sera senza avergli fornito la passwd di root ;-)
Per quanto riguarda la soluzione ACPI, che e' la migliore anche secondo me, e' cmq ancora "experimental" e sulla mia macchina al boot riporta quanto segue:
