Q. How do you calculate the Stardate?
A. Well, I had to research a little bit on the web to find what is the
"formal" stardate. I have found one version which seems mostly
reasonable
   for me.

Each year is 1000 stardates. Stardate 0 is January 1st, year 23 of
the
   century, i.e, January 1st 1923 is Stardate 0, January 1st 1935 is
stardate
   12000, and so on.

You have to calculate the number of days from the Stardate epoch
(January
1st 2323), and then you can calculate the stardate, afterwards you
take
into account the number of centuries from the epoch. The current
number of
centuries from the epoch is -4, so the real stardate as of today,
Friday
   December 29th, 2000, is Stardate [-4] 77997.6. I've decided to strip
the
[-4] from the applet, because it changes only every 100 years.

The number after the digit stands for the part of day in UTC. For
example,
if it's currently noon in UTC, then it will be .5. Early in the
morning? .3,
   Late at night? around .9.

The stardate is not a floating point number. It's just two numbers
seperated by a dot, so if you think for a moment that it's going
backwards,
   you are wrong.
