why can't I see smtp connections?

I want to view smtp connections in the ESM but I don't see any connections when 
in reality there should be at least 100 connections. I'm trying to view the 
connections by going to Administrative group>organization name>server 
name>protocols>smtp>current connections. Can someone please help.
