You move mailboxes, and replicate the public folders.

For the 5.5 you will need a connector though

chong,

Ok . Now suppose i have done all the steps till exchange server 2003
installation .When i install the first exch2k3 box it will ask "Select the
name of a server in the exchange organisation you wish to join" .Now i
specify one of my exchange organisation server name and suppose the new exch
2k3 server joined that organisation..., what abt the other exch 5.5
organisation that i had and what abt the mailboxes and public folders in
the other org? How to move that?

Thanks
Raj

What you're doing is an inter-org migration. You have the right picture.
You create your new 2003 domain. You install your new Exchange 2003
server in the existing 5.5 exchange org. Run admt to migrate your users
to the new domain. Install ADC so the mailboxes on 5.5 will now map to
the users in 2003. Then you can move mailboxes to your 2003 exhange
server, migrate pf etc.

Hi All,

Somebody tell me abt the steps ( differences from a single org) when iam
doing a exch migration from 5.5 to 2003 in a 2 organisation setup?

I have been involved in the migration of a single org .
The steps roughly were
1)create a windows 2003 domain
2)Clean Up exchange directory for resource mailboxes
3) Set up and run ADC
4) Move mailboxes ,Public folders
5) build exchange 2003
transfer connectors , BH, routing cal servers , etc

6) delete the ADC , DRC and SRS

Is it necessary to move mailboxes and public folders by transfering them
to a pst and then importing them and reconfiguring them?

Thanks
Raj Nair
