exchange in child domain

  dear all

  i have domain controller ( parent domain ) domain.com and it is the domain 
controller for our entire network and exchange server 2000 installed in it also
  and we have development child domain 
  child.domain.com and exchange installed on it 

  now all user in the parent domain has a local email address user@xxxxxxxxxx

  this is fine , but when i try to create an local email for the development in 
thier exchnage server it gives me this dev@xxxxxxxxxx 
  i want it to be dev@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 

  if some one can help me in this i will be appriciate to him
