-------------------------------------------------------So client has multiple
offices Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa and
another soon to be setup location in Alberta.
All email is currently hosted with ElectricMail
http://www.electricmail.net
The Toronto office has their own Exchange 2003 server and uses the Pop3
connector to download their mail locally and have been for over a year now.
All the other offices just use pop3 direct to Outlook on their desktops.
Next week I'll have an exchange 2003 server up and running in Vancouver.
The Vancouver and Toronto office have an always on VPN connection between the
offices, primarily so that Toronto can access the accounting software in
Vancouver.
Initially, will be using the pop3 connector in Vancouver to download mail,
however I am wondering what's going to happen if someone replies to an
account that's not in the Vancouver AD, but does exist on Electricmail (ie
accounts for everyone outside of Vancouver). I expect it's going to say
account doesn't exist/invalid user. What's the best way to get around this.
Do I need to setup some kind of custom mail routing in exchange? I know how
to do this in the Unix world, just not in the Exchange world.
Eventually we'll be bringing all email hosting in house and I'll need to link
the Toronto Exchange server into the Vancouver one, what's the best way of
handling that so that (Toronto has separate AD domain):
a) all mails comes into Vancouver server and gets relayed over to Toronto
server (toronto mail only of course)
b) some kind of load balancing where either server gets the mail (primary and
backup mx for the domains) and forwards it accordingly or
c) some kind of subdelegation where all Toronto email goes to the Toronto
server only and everything else goes to the Vancouver server.
d) something else altogether....
Thanks
