Update on this problem.

I started another backup with backup exec. This time, I configured it to
only backup the exchange mailbox stores, and not the single mailbox
store. This was done because the single mailbox backup resulted in a
couple of errors... By only backing up the mailbox store, I was able to
get a fully completed backup from backup exec......and it did remove the
transaction logs this time.

This brings me to the conclusion that Netvault is most likely the cause
of the problem. I already opened a call at netvault.

Hi Dennis

Backup Exec. (BE) certainly should delete the transaction log files.
Don't know about NetVault I'm afraid. If not you must have a problem or
an incorrect setting. The default setting with the BE Exchange agent is
to do a full backup and flush commiited logs unless you have chaged it?.
You are running the Exchange agent I presume? Depending on what drivers
you may be able to use NT Backup as a test? Does it flush the logs if
so?

Hope that helps.

Bye for now.

Paul.

        Hi List,

Recently, we changed the backup software on our exchange server.
Before, we used Backup Exec 9.0, and the newly acquired backup software
is Netvault. After some time, we noticed an increase in disk space that
wasn't there before...

It turns out that Netvault does not delete the transaction logs
after a successful full backup of the exchange server...

To troubleshoot the issue, I enabled the old backup exec backup
(that was still there) to run a backup and see what happened. Well,
unfortunately, backup exec does not remove the transaction logs either..

This sort of gives me the idea that is not really the backup
software that is causing this problem, but exchange itself...

Does anyone ever has a similar problem, or knows how to resolve
this issue?

        Kind regards,
