Then that is very interesting. The AD didn't create them, it just reports what's there. Your client is configured to look at the Active Directory and pull back data based on a search filter. If you see mail-enabled-contacts or mail-enabled-users then that's because they exist in the Active Directory db. The Exchange GAL is not what you're looking at if you're using IMAP. You're using LDAP for that view and any LDAP browser would display the same if the filter were the same. Who administers your Active Directory? Where did those email addresses in the Active Directory come from?
