An OU is an Organizational Unit. I simply create an OU for these contacts for
my own organizational purposes. There is no technical reason to do this. You
can create the contacts wherever you would like in the AD structure

I just went through this myself and found that 2003 is a completely different
point of view from 5.5. Everything is in AD now. What I did was to create a
new OU to hold the contacts (just for organizational purposes). In the new OU,
you create new contacts and assign the addresses to them.
