Hello

I have to get them to do a full on Friday night and do differential every
night. That will also lowers the time backup takes and impact on servers.
Thanks for comments.

Simplest is not always best. A good backup/recovery plan has to take into
consideration costs, time and resources. Often this includes the use of full
and either incremental or differential backups.

Example, running a complete full backup of company data every night is not
needed, a weekly full backup with daily differentials is fine. But in doing
so, resources must be taken into account. While 2 external USB drives are
adequate, it costs more in time and the human element in remembering to
switch the drives and taking them home (they are rotating off site aren't
they, or at least into a electronic media rated fire safe.) Better would be
to use the 2 external USB drives for weekly full backups, and then use a REV
or JAZZ or flash drive for daily differentials, but that requires additional
resources and cost.

In other words, a backup/recovery plan is specific to each business
depending on costs (lost time, budget, resources, business down time) time
(some one has to change tapes and/or CDs and/or drives and who covers if
that person is not there) and resources.

Hello

I just came to this place, but what they are doing now is having 2 external
USB drives and backup to those and switch drives every night so in worst
case you get one day lost. Also backup with verify and done full every
night. I think a full 7 GB a night is a little over kill. Don't you think
so?
