Only open up port 25 for SMTP to the server from the internet.
You also only need 25 between the SMTP server and the exchange server

Make your Windows 2003 as SMTP Server, & in exchange SMTP connector, you
have to select forward all mails through this connector to the following
smart host. In the smart host entry put your windows SMTP server name.
