What is Sytem Mailbox ?

I have Exchange 2000 and window 2000 server.

Why the Sytem Mailbox is to big ?? The size of user mailbox are very small
nevertheless the system mailbox still big.

Help please !!!

How to clean System Mailbox ?? That is posible ?
