Good observation. Bottom line is once everything is done and said...is
the data backed up. As far as the two Bruce pointed out...both will
accomplish the same thing..perhaps, one may be easier to use.

Bruce,

Do you always have a better solution?

"backup express better than backup exec"
"groupwise better than exchange"

These are statements that you think to yourself and don't put in an
email and send to a list. It's just not productive.

Backup Express works much better than Backup Exec.

Tom,
Yes, you can use BE 8.6 to backup Exchange. You will need the agents
though to backup the databases. Since you are running Exchange 2003, I
would suggest doing a disk to disk backup of your Exchange using
NTbackup, and then backup the NTbackup image file using BE8.6. This way,
you don't need the BE Exchange agents. This is the recommended backup
model suggested by Microsoft. There are a few articles in Microsoft KB
on how to optimize the NTbackup for best throughput for a scenario like
this. In my case, I use a 200GB USB drive for the disk to disk backups
of Exchange, and I get very good through puts.

Does anyone know if there are any issues with Backup Exec 8.6 and
Exchange 2k3?
Can I use that verison to back up Exchange or do I need 9 or 10?
thanks
