The state Authorizing takes much time on Exchange Server

Hey,
In recent days, my mail server had some problems, the Authorizing process
between the client and server takes so much time, sometimes it exceeds the
timeout. My server uses Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Exchange Server 2000.
If anyone have ever met this problem, tell me how to solve it right.
