Telnetting to my smtp server

Hi,
Iam trying to telnet to my smtp server port 25 and then trying to type and
learn some commands.
BUT after it coming up with an ok prompt ,i cannot type in anything.
What iam i to do for the cursor to type in something in the Dos prompt??
