1. Who is saying to stop Exchange services? You should only backup Exchange with either NTBackup on the Exchange server (once you install Exchange, NTBackup becomes Exchange aware) or using a 3rd party backup software with an Exchange agent. 2. No, there is no reason to be backing up the MDBDATA folder or its contents using normal file backup. See 1 above. 3. I believe IIS Metadata is included in a systemstate backup of the computer it is on. Some one correct me if I am wrong. 4. Systemstate backup should be done on each server, not just the Exchange server nor not just the domain controller.
