google "Exchange swing server replacement". It's basically the same
whether an upgrade or same version migration.

The old Exchange Server is not a domain controller. I have one machine
Server A which is my Domain Controller and the old machine Server B has
Exchange 2003 and my new machine Sever C also has Exchange 2003. I want to
replace machine B with Machine C. Of course I want to setup and even test
if possible Server C before I pull the plug on Server B.

Was/is the old Exchange server a domain controller? If so, you will have to
completely get rid of it. It is never recommended to install Exchange on a
DC, SBS notwithstanding.

Subject: [ExchangeList] Steps to install a new Server

We needed to upgrade to new hardware running our Microsoft Windows Server
2003 and MS Exchange 2003. The idea was to replace the old machine with the
new one by installing the Server and Exchange software on the new machine
and then migrate the Exchange data from the old to the new. I have a small
installation with one Server running as my Domain Controller and the old
server with Exchange and the new server now also with Exchange.

Problem is I am not sure how to complete the migration. This is my first
time installing either and the last install was done by contractors. Now
when I go into Exchange System Manager /Administrative Groups/Servers, both
of my servers are listed.

1. How do I migrate the data from the old server to the new?

2. How do I migrate the Users (AD networked machines running XP Pro)
to the new Exchange Server?

3. How do I disconnect the old server?

So far as I have seen, none of the books on Exchange cover migrating from
one copy of exchange to another on the same network and the same release.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
