Ive got a 2000 SBS server, mail forwarded 110 and 25 behind basic
linksys router. Connections are up and down depending where we connect,
and its always problematic in hotels behind their firewalls. Some hotels
offer vpn access, others not. We use vpn with outlook, otherwise OWA
client. Both seem to be iffy. When Im on the road I don't have these
issues. But guess who... right! The President and CEO. Connection Areas
are Toronto Canada, China and Taiwan. From Toronto can ping by IP and
name "mail.performancematerials.com"
Hmmmmm, always the president!

You say you're running 7.5 corporate client. Is the Exchange server
itself
running the Exchange -specific NAV software or the client software?
The reason I ask is because if you're only running NAV on the client,
Exchange doesn't care if a message is infected, it will simply pass it
through to the client which must do the dirty work. If you've got the
Exchange anti-virus software installed, the Exchange server will clean
the
infected message (theoretically) prior to delivering it to the client.
In
the latter scenario, the server is doing more work, especially if you're
experiencing a virus storm.
If you're running the client version of NAV on the Exchange server, it's
probably trying to scan the Exchange databases and logs in real-time,
which
can cause major problems and is officially discouraged by Microsoft (and
everybody else for that matter).

That's a good question... I'm assuming it's the volume, since it has not
had
this effect until lately. Perhaps it's a particular virus that is
causing
it. How can I tell?

I'm having a problem with viruses shutting down the Internet Mail
Service on
Exchange Server 5.5.
I am using Norton Antivirus 7.5 Corporate Client on Exchange
Server........
although Norton is able to quarantine the viruses successfully, it is
still
having an adverse effect on the mail services. My Exchange server has
been
in production for about a month. This problem has only started
happening
the last two days.
