Here is help for one of the problems...I hope....Q259373 HTH -----Original Message----- From: Mark Budman [mailto:mbudman@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 04 September 2002 16:01 To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] Serious Exchanges problems - Extremely frustrating - Help requested http://www.MSExchange.org/ Hello, I am hoping that someone will be able to give assistance / guidance to the Exchange problem. Here is the setup: Exchange 2000 SP2 Enterprise on Windows 2000 Advanced server; Configured as Domain Controller (DC) and designated with Global Catalogue (GC); Groupshield 5.2 (Network Associates AntiVirus software installed) 2 additional DC's designated with GC servers; One of these DC's has the 5 FSMO roles; Situation to Start: 2 exchange servers, one as DC (above), one just Exchange server (not DC), 4 Domain Controllers, all with GC on them. Every Windows 2000 Server also has Windows 2000 SP2 installed on it Objective: Remove 2 of the 5 DC's; transfer FSMO roles to one of remaining DC's; Remove Exchange server not acting as DC from organization Steps taken: I) Transferred FSMO roles to one of the DC's that was not to be shutdown (Microsoft KB article Q255690) 2) DCpromo 'ed two DC's that I wanted to retire. (3 left - DC1 with 5 FSMO roles, DC2, and second Exchange server) At this point Active Directory looked great. The Exchange server that was to be removed was the First Exchange server: Therefore followed instructions indicated in Microsoft KB articles: Microsoft KB Q252486 - Removing the First Exchange 2000 Server from Site Microsoft KB Q307917 - How to remove the First Exchange 2000 Server Computer from the Site This is when problems started happening. The event viewer on the Exchange system reported non-stop errors with Free-Busy data. I searched Microsoft knowledge base and found an article that said to reapply Exchange service pack 2. I reapplied Exchanged service pack 2 and the results have been disastrous. Exchange services to do start automatically on boot-up (They have to be manually started) Exchange POP service does not work (even though it says service is started); Here are the log entries (in the order they appear) for the SYSTEM LOG: Event ID:36871 A fatal error occurred while creating an SSL server credential. Event ID: 101 Warning (4 times) The server was unable to add the virtual root '/public' for the directory 'M:\tor.devry.ca\Public Folders' due to the following error: The system cannot find the path specified. Event ID 61 (Warning) WMI ADAP was unable to process the PerfDisk performance library due to a time violation in the open function ================================================================== Notes: We do not use SSL, nor do we have a certificate server We do not have two virtual servers; I uninstalled Groupshield, reapplied Exchange SP2 and while the error messages in the logs are the same as indicated above, I can get the POP service to work; However, shutdown and reboot, Exchange pop service will not function (even though says started), and Exchange services still do not start; I then reapplied Exchange SP2 again and reinstalled Groupshield; Here is the frustrating part: ============================= Event viewer says click link for support and results: NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME I got to Microsoft email support: It requests program ID for Exchange, but does not explain how to get it (Found the answer through a post, it is recorded as in registry) I finally enter product ID for Exchange, and it says this product is not one eligible for support (It is a fully paid legal copy of course) I don't see why a person should have to pay for support for a product that does not function correctly especially when all instructions were followed according to Microsoft's specifications. ------------------------------------ Mark Budman mbudman@xxxxxxxxxxxx ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: pwhite@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub')
