Hello,

Well that's not good. Under exchange 2000/2003 that means and additional
an account must be created, which is a gigantic pain. This raises the
TCO are you listening Microsoft? This seems like an artificial
restriction. So long as my account owns the proxy address it certainly
is not a security risk to allow me to set my From: address is it?

Bill

Hi Bill,
When you use the From field to change the sender ID, you have to use an
alternate "mailbox name" to which you have delegated permissions. You
cannot use your own proxy address as a delegate address. Proxy addresses
are just email addresses, and they are not treated as a mailbox with
permissions to send on behalf of the person. You normally use the From
filed to send on behalf of another person in your organization, not as
your proxy address. The only way you can do this in Outlook/Exchange
environment would be to change your Primary SMTP address, but I don't
think that is what you need.

Raj

Subject: [exchangelist] Send As Causes an error

http://www.MSExchange.org/

Hello,

I have an exchange organization that is responsible for two email
domains:

cs.cornell.edu
cis.cornell.edu

I have users setup up that have proxy addresses for both of these
domains
including myself.

My primary SMTP address is wtholmes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx If I attempt to send
mail
to my cis address, from either an internal or external mail
server,william.holmes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx everything works fine. I receive
the
mail without a problem.

However sometimes it would be desirable to send as
william.holmes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx however when I do so I receive the
following
error message:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

      wth1@xxxxxxxxxxx on 9/22/2004 2:46 PM
You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For
assistance, contact your system administrator.
            MSEXCH:MSExchangeIS:/DC=edu/DC=cornell/DC=cs:EXCHVS1

I can send to this recipient if I do not alter the From Field. What is
causing this error and how can I correct it? I don't understand why this
is a
"send to" error rather than a you don't have permission to "send as"
error.

Any info appreicated.

Thanks

Bill
