There's all kinds of software that will do that sort of indexing.  The right
one will depend on your exact needs.  Check out vendors such as KVS for
potential candidates.

Does anyone know if there is any software out there that can search an
exchange database for phrases within email messages?
Wee are required to keep all incoming and outgoin emails for 7 years. Now we
are being asked to back through the last 3 years worth of emails to check
for certain phrases for legal reasons.
