I went and looked up Sarbane-Oxley act and guess what, it is aimed at
financial companies more or less. (That is why the name was vaguely
familiar; it requires e-mail archiving and searching and copies within a
short amount of time.) It is not a computer or network security document,
nor is it for companies in general. If you are in the financials sector, or
have clients who are, then it may apply to you.
My understanding of the Sarbane-Oxley act is that it has a general purpose
of preserving data in the financial industry and forcing accountability.
Now, from a logical common sense standpoint, where does locking a server
come in to play in forcing accountability and preserving data?
Now, I have not taken the time to read the hundreds of pages in it, but even
if it said in there that you must keep your servers and workstation locked
and not logged out, I could care less. Like I said before, who is going to
blindly follow what the government says, when they do not know what they are
talking about a majority of the time.
