Danny, in regards to part of your original question, mapped drives are only
available when some one is logged in and the drive is mapped under that log
in. For automated tasks, you need to use the UNC (Universal Naming
Convention) path in the form of \\servername\sharename\path. Now, some have
used as part of a script to map a drive and then use that mapped drive. Yes,
that can work. The key is can, not will. One of the problems with that is if
a username and password is needed to map the drive, the user name and
password are there in clear text and are sent across the wire in clear text.
Using a UNC will always work.
