Do you have a DNS entry for server1?

RPC is not allowed from the front end to the back end. This was working and
now is not. The front end server is lets say \\server1 and the back end is
say \\server2. I am able to type in the browser \\server2\exchagne and of
course my email comes up. Typing \\server1\exchange gives me a Cannot find
server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer error. When I first sent this email, I was at least
getting a login screen but now I am not. I changed authentication by
removing Integrated Windows authentication off of the front end server. The
front end server is just using basic. does this help?

You had a backend server with no mailboxes on it? Must be nice. :)

You had it setup to authenticate internally... as in, you have it to
authenticate to another server outside of the DMZ within your LAN? If
so, *from* this new frontend server, are you able to communicate with
the server it is suppose to authenticate to? Have you adjusted your
firewall rules appropriately? What type of traffic can you get through
to the authenticating server?
