I route all incoming email through my MX servers, but I allow all my
outgoing servers to send email. They don't need a public IP for that
(they just need NAT).

It's really just about preference...

Mail delivery to the internet...

Each connector (one in each Admin Group) will have different routing
values for redundancy if a connector is unreachable.

Lots of great detail there, but I don't quite understand the question.

What do you use the SMTP connectors for?

Hello all,

Just a little 'design' question to get your opinions.

When creating SMTP connectors for your organization, do most of you
place them on your Front End Servers?

Currently, I have one SMTP connector that forwards all mail to smart
hosts. I am now going with Frontbridge and will be removing the smart
hosts. As such, I do not want to make my internal Bridgehead accessible
to the internet. I would rather keep all SMTP traffic going to the
Front End Servers that I have throughout my organization.

Does anyone see any issues with this design?

We have 3 'main' sites. Each with their own Front End servers currently
providing OWA and RPC services. Our corporate site has a Network Load
Balanced Frontend config as well, which I plan to make our primary MX
record. All servers are robust and should be able to easily handle the
flow.

Thanks for your thoughts/confirmation on my design.

Chris
