SMTP

Hi all,
I?ve just finished setting up a new windows 2003 server
with exchange 2003 running on it, now when I add users on
active directory and create exchange mailboxes, exchange
only creates local smtp account not external like
myname@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Where could I have gone wrong??
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated..
