It should still be there, because Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 have
Deleted Mailbox Retention, take a look at this link:

Hi,
i have ms exchange2003 by mistake one of my administrators delete a mailbox
user , he didn`t make a backup , so do you have a way to backup and restore
a one mailbox from the mailbox store
