Have you already read through the disaster recovery whitepaper for Exchange?
I think it may help here.

http://www.MSExchange.org/
Hi all,
I need help urgent:
I made a backup of my exch 2k server(MIS and also 'Exchsrvr') and i made a
restore to another machine which has raid 1 and was configured after the
source machine. First of all i made a restore of 'Exchsrvr' folder and also
to MIS.
The problem is : 1. i can't mount the old mailbox and public folder, but i
can create a new mailbox or storage group.
                        2. i don't see my old mailbox in this new server.

Thank you for any suggestion
Dani
