If they have their own mailboxes and open up the departmental one as well
you will need to add the 'From...' button.

In Outlook 2000 click new message.  View -> From Field.

When they want the response to come from the generic address add that
address to the From field.

I have configured a departmental mailbox, where several part-time workers
How can I configure the mailbox, so that when the user responds to a
message, it will 
come from that generic mailbox, rather than the user who is replying? 
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. 
I am using Outlook 2000 and Exchange 5.5
