RE: RUS not running!!!

It also seems that the RUS is not logging anything at all.  I set all the 
diagnostic loggings in MSExchangeAL to maximum, restarted the server and ran 
'rebuild' and 'update now', and I see nothing in the event viewer.  What's 
going on?

There are no Exchange errors in the event log relating to the GC.  People can 
send email fine and do address lookups, so I know that the GC connection is 
working.  Addresses are not stamped and indicated that the RUS is not working 
at all.  How can I fix this?

There is not RUS service to check.  Everything you are reporting is telling me 
that RUS is not working correctly.  If you create a new user and the address is 
never stamped, this tells me that it is not working.  I would check you Global 
Catalog Server and see if it has somehow lost the connection to the Exchange 
server.  I would check the Event log on the Global and see if you find any 
unusual errors.

I had the same problem at one time.  The problem for me was my global catalog 
server was not responding.  We rebooted the Global Catalog server and Exchange 
and this fixed the issue.  As to what caused it I have no idea.

For some reason, the RUS (Recipient Update Service) is not running on my 
Exchange 2000 server.  I've set all the MSExchangeAL diagnostic logging to 
maximum and restarted the System Attendant.  Did a rebuild and update now, but 
no recipients gets email address stamped and nothing about MSExchangeAL appears 
in the event log.  What's causing this?
