Hi all,

Found the problem ( I think ) ...........

The onboard NIC seems to be faulty, I tried to reload drivers ok but
still no good, so I then installed another net card and bingo they see
each other and I can now scan the network !!!!! not seen that fault
before, being able to run at 10 but not 100 sheesh don't computers wind
us up, going for a beer, day over.

Thanks for all your help

Hm, is it an 10/100 switch or is it a 100 only switch?
Perhaps the negotion is failing...
Trying setting your nic card to be 100 full duplex...

Thanks for replies, some answers .........

The old 24 port is a accton, the new onesare, a dynamode 8 port,
net-lynx 8 port.

Wires work fine on old switch but not on new ones, used service bay ones
that I used to test the 8 port hubs.

No firewalls setup.

Advanced on NIC media type is set to auto.

Thanks

Steve

Weird...

Are the cables OK? Are your NIC's set to "talk" on a specified speed or
you have auto-negotiation enabled? Try to set the speed lower and see if
it works.

Hi all,

This seems like a stupid question but here goes :

In the lab I have setup a windows server 2003 inc exchange, and two
workstations, at the time I used an old 24 port 10 meg switch and all
works fine, yesterday I got hold of a new 8 port 100 switch and no
matter how I try I cannot get them to communicate, even by pinging they
cant see each other, so I assumed the 8 port to be faulty, today I
purchased a new 8 port switch and still the network does not work. I
have now tested both 8 port hubs on another test network and both
switches work fine ........ scratching my head now, how come both
switches work on another network but not the domain controlled win2003
server test network ???????? anone shd a light on this for me
