She was just mentioning that the Outlook search capability doesn't allow it.
Sharepoint can use the public folder store, although I don't recommend it
personally ;) so yes it is searchable and can be indexed. 

Unless you know of a way to search using Outlook that was missed?

Perhaps I have missed a thread here....BUT Public folders are searchable. By
default you can search for property-based attributes. If you would like full
search capabilities, set indexing on the public folder.
