Outlook Express 6.0 SP1 on Windows XP SP1 does not in the default
configuration automatically open a jpg attachment in the preview pane
period!. I just checked again.

I will say it again, in the default configuration, attachments will not be
opened by Outlook Express or Outlook. If this is happening on your
computers, you or some one must have either reconfigured them from default,
or configured a policy to do this.

Now, if a jpg is imbedded in the body of the e-mail, that will show in the
preview pane.

Well on Outlook Express & Thunderbird, you see ATTACHED .jpg images in the
preview pain. I want to be able to see this in Outlook 2003 as well. I
have to click on each image individually.

Depends how the message is sent. If they send a text e-mail to you with a
picture, it will be an attachment. If they paste it into the body in an
HTML message then it will show in the body of the message.
