Have you been making changes to the BE server? If so, be sure to document
everything so you can return it to the way it was (write down all the
settings before and after you make the change).

If you're not familiar with Exchange and are learning on a production system
I strongly recommend that you ask your org to hire a consultant to get you
on your feet so that you're comfortable not just administrating the system
but making configuration changes...

Maybe you should describe your environment a little more, like is this a
production system, one of how many BE servers, etc.

Greg,
I am in big trouble. The BE server is now giving an http/1.1 error and it
was working fine before. I'm in deep trouble and really need help. I was
kinda pushed into this position as they other administrator left.

You've got a configuration problem on your FE server. Your IIS configuration
isn't right, as it's not listening on the default HTTP port. Start there and
let us know what you find.

Do you see the subject line, how your system's spam filter keeps scanning
and adding to the subject...?

Have you confirmed that the FE server is listening on port 80? What happens
when you browse to \\server1\exchange from server1?

I can telnet and verify from the front end to the back end on 80, 25, 691,
389, 3268, 88, 53, 135 and 1024 and above.
Therefore, it makes me believe it's a configuration problem on the FE
server.
Have I stumped ya?

If you're unable to get to it using the IP address or name, then it's likely
a firewall configuration issue. As Al mentioned there's probably a necessary
port being blocked.

Do you have a DNS entry for server1?
