I had a similar problem with our Macs and it turned out to be a name
resolution issue. I resolved it by adding a local HOSTS file to the Macs
something like ....(for a Windows 2000 AD network)
exchange.executive.treasurers.co.uk exchange
192.168.72.10 exchange.executive.treasurers.co.uk
