I had a feeling it was something like that, sometimes a fresh start is a
good idea. No matter what your looking at a lot of manual work. If
your planning on doing this in one big bang you maybe able to use a
backup and restore scenario for your exchange. Restore a backup to a
new Exchange server in the new forest and then manually reattach the
mailboxes to the new users, same for public folders but all rights
assignments will need to be redone. Distribution lists will need to be
manually recreated as will all mail enabled contacts. I don't envy you
at all.

Its that they want a clean pristine AD. The current one contains
spurious data, wrong GPOs, and changed/amended Ous. The current Forest
was migrated from NT some years ago to Windows 2000 and then to Windows
2003 all in place migrations. In that time various admins had done
changes in AD and now default GPOs don't do what they are supposed to
do. Machines don't sometimes register themselves in DNS correctly, users
sometimes get invalid kerberos tickets etc. Another admin had integrated
the CISCO VOIP stuff into it, which we now don't use and hard to clean
it out. Also the security models used have become cumbersome now and we
want a clean security model in place.
I am more concerned with moving Exchange mailboxes etc to the new forest
and domain.
Any suggestions.
