The server the user was on doesn't exist on my network so I can't move or open the mailbox on that server. Since I deleted the Outlook profile I can no longer open the OST file. I was able to use the OfficeRecovery demo...it showed the info but the data says "the eval recovery worked but to see the emails you have to get the real thing". So now I have find out if it's worth spending the $500 to get it. But... If the OST store is merely an offline cache so you can browse your server mailbox when not actually connected to the server, then that implies that when you are connected to the server your OST file is redundant and is therefore not used. So... why do you need to get the OST file back? Isn't whatever was in the OST file still in the user's mailbox, which has been moved to the new server? You are not able to open them like any ordinary pst file. Regards, Joe Ledwidge ________________________ Systems Manager Metal Powders International, Main Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24, Ireland. These are not stored in the priv.edb. Native Outlook file format is PST files, is this what you meant? These are not saved in any special way, they're just files on the disk. If you did indeed delete his old profile I would suggest you lock down that hard drive ASAP. Get it out of that machine and put in another and run some file recovery utilities on it. Don't let the space get overwritten by new files or the old files are gone for good. --- -----Original Message----- From: Eric Lanyon [mailto:ELanyon@xxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2003 9:56 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] OST files http://www.MSExchange.org/ I have a user that was part of another domain and recently came into ours. On the old domain, he used OST files. When he came in, I added him to the domain and created a new email profile to the server. Not knowing he had the OST files, I deleted the old profile. Then come to find out he needs the info that was stored in the OST files. He is running Outlook 2000. Any suggestions on how to extract the data? ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: cnielsen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub') ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: thomas.gonzalez@xxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub') ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: joe@xxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub') ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: cnielsen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub') ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: elanyon@xxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub')
