Terry:

The problem in my case was that in the properties of Private Information
store i had set the deleted items retention period to 5 days, whereas in the
properties of my mailbox in the limits tab, the checkbox " use information
store defaults under the deleted items retention time " was NOT checked and
it was taking the default value ( days ) to ZERO, which is why my
deleted items were not retaining. I was on the WIN2K wks. Terry please check
the properties of the account u r using to log on from XP.

Hi Ong/Sudhir,
I set "DumpsterAlwaysOn" too and it doesn't work for me (for 4 days
now). Are you on XP like myself? I remember setting it on my previous wks
(Win2K pro) and it works well... but only after a while as it needs time to
"sync" to the server i think.

   Anyone can assist further?

Thanks and warm regrds
Terry

Hi ONG,

The registry key " DumpstersAlwaysOn " is already set. And i never press
shift delete. My concern is that I should be able to recover the deleted
items from "recover deleted items" option till the retention period set on
the server ( 3 days in my case ) is over. Dont know why many times i cant
recover my mails.

Any idea what could be the cause of this?

Thanks,

Do you bypass the "Delete Item Folder"? That is you press shift delete.
Try set the registry key DumpsterAlwaysOn. Follow this article,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;178630

It is a very common problem among my users. We have to brief our
support staff on this issue.

Hi List,

May I know why sometimes we cant recover the items from the option " recover
deleted items " after deleting from deleted items folder. One option is
that it depends on the retention period set on the server, but many times I
am not able to recover the items deleted even couple of minutes back. does
it depends on the size of the deleted items folder or does the retention
period has any size limit for retaining the deleted items?

Does anyone has any idea why this happens?
