Hi Simon,

I work on a datacenter where we host windows, linux, solaris and AIX
servers. The current situation is that we have two different backup
platforms, one for the windows servers and one for the *nix servers.
Both using tape libraries that are end-of-live and short of space.

So we decided to try to buy a new backup platform that could host all
servers... There were different options (Netvault, Retrospect, Veritas
NetBackup, Tivoli, etc).

Netvault turned out to be the best option when comparing price/quality.

Since we have two datacenters, we get 2 new systems, one in every DC,
and every system is backing up the systems at the other DC to a RIAD
system.

This will ensure the offsite storage...

About Backup Exec, it is not really meant to be a Datacenter Backup
solution, but it did it's job. Netbackup would have been a better
solution, but is simply too expensive.

If comparing Backup Exec to Netvault, Netvault is half the prize (but we
got a good deal where Netvault; they take back all the Veritas licenses
that we currently have).

Nice about Netvault is that you can fully restore a system from scratch
with just one cd....Boot up the cd, tell the program which server is
should be, and the restore starts...And after a while, the restore is
completed, and the system reboots...and is live again! Very impressive.

We currently use Backup Exec 9.0, nut will migrate to Netvault within
the next month.

The backup and restore of normal windows servers is impressive, and the
disaster recovery option is really really very good.

We are currently testing the backup and (more important) the restore of
a windows 2003 / exchange 2003 server... No results yet...

Will post them when available.

Is there any one out there using NetVault Bakbone for Exchange as a
backup solution?

If so, can you give me your opinion of it?

Thanks,
Chris
