Sorry, my fault, he did answer my question. :) ________________________________ Van: exchangelist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx namens John T (Lists) Verzonden: do 25-5-2006 9:45 Aan: exchangelist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Onderwerp: [ExchangeList] Re: Migration Exchange 2000 to 2003 He did answer your question. Nothing much is in there until clients of the Exchange server start accessing their mail box via POP3 and IMAP. (I would think that access from OWA would be in the main files, but I could be wrong.) The question is why does the STM file not grow after the move of the mailboxes. And why do al those logfiles appear? ________________________________ From: exchangelist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of ChongJa@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thu 25-5-2006 0:18 To: exchangelist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ExchangeList] Re: Migration Exchange 2000 to 2003 http://www.msexchange.org <http://www.msexchange.org/> -------------------------------------------------------The .STM file, or streaming file, holds non-MAPI information while the .edb file, or the Exchange database (essentially a large JET (Access-type of technology) database holds the messages and the MAPI information. If someone sends e-mail or accesses e-mail from a non-MAPI client (POP3, IMAP4, Web), that e-mail is stored in the .stm file. Mail from the internet is also non-MAPI and comes in a format called MIME. This information is also stored in the STM file. It may be converted to MAPI when a MAPI user (Outlook) accesses it and it is also converted to MAPI when the Move Mailbox wizard is used. There also may be pointers in the .edb to information in the STM. http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Email_Groupware/Exchange_Serv er/Q_21445024.html -----Original Message----- From: exchangelist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:exchangelist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mark Meelhuysen Sent: Wednesday, May 24, 2006 5:32 PM To: exchangelist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ExchangeList] Migration Exchange 2000 to 2003 http://www.msexchange.org <http://www.msexchange.org/> -------------------------------------------------------Hello all, I migrated an exchange 2000 organisation to Exchange 2003. i did this by adding a new 2003 server so that we can reinstall the currecnt exchangeserver. I used the move mailbox procedure to move the mailboxes. Now I have noticed that everything is moved well , but that the size of the STM file has not increased. On the old server it was about 3 gb big, now only a couple of mb. instead there are a lot of *.log files... are these the messages that were in the STM file before? And did I use the wrong procedure/tool?
