Hello everyone.

I've been asked by a friend to help him move an existing Windows 2000 Domain
Controller running Exchange 2000 to another PC with better hardware. He
wants to re-install the OS and Exchange on this new machine, but he would
like to keep the same machine name, IP address, etc. So MX records, DNS,
should not be a problem, I wouldn't think.

I am currently supporting an Exchange Server 5.5 at work which runs on a
Windows NT 4.0 Domain Controller. However, I have never used Exchange 2000.
I've been researching on the Web and found the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297289

Do any of you have other ideas, better solutions on how to do this? Perhaps
a more step-by-step approach?
Currently, my friend does not backup any of his mailboxes on the server.
All mail resides on the server and is not downloaded to a *.pst file.

What are the pitfalls? Any gotchas? Perhaps there are issues I have not
yet anticipated. As a result, I thought I would drop a message to you, the
"experts," for some advice on this!

Thanks in advance,

--Jason Davis
