That was the first thing we did, but no joy

Did you try disabling your AV first then restarting your server?

thanks, I will try this, but would explain why stopping th smtp service is practically impossible, and requires the server to be rebooted to get it back to a good state

Check if your FQDN is resolving from your Exchange server. If it is resolving, check if you get alternate IPs of your DCs (If you have multiple DCs).
Check if the DC mentioned in your Recipient update service is up and running, If so check if that DC is listed in the Nameserver tab in your DNS server.
This seems to be a DNS issue and not an SMTP issue.

Even I have faced a problem like this before in one of our organization. What happened was the administrators there have removed the DC (Which was being configured in RUS) from the nameserver tab since that DC did not have DNS service running and they would like to allow zone transfer for all nameserver?s running DNS. It is mere stupidity?.

Thanks, Mahadevan

All services are running, and we have tried disabling Mc Afee, but no joy. Mails just seem to get stuck in the queue. The only way to get some of them moving is to reboot the server. Even trying to restart the sntp service would throw the server into an unresponsive state.

This is getting pretty dire, and I am not quite sure what the problem is. I have instructed a reinstallation of Exch 2003 sp2. From what I can see the smtp service is not working as smoothly as I would want. Just wondering if it corrupt? I just dont know.

Hi Guys,

Exchange 2003 sp2, windows 2003 sp1, MC Afee Groupshield 6.0.

Mails are currently queuing up and not been delivered internally and externally. The mails are stuck in the pending submission queue, and ideas? Checked event log, and no specific id's.

Please help
