The messages are not stored anywhere on the server. You don't create
mailbox. Exchange as far as he has SMTP address treats it like it was
forward. It does not send NDRs. It works within my company with 20 email
addresses that are no longer exists. (Thank you mark Fugatt).

We are using Exchange 5.5, but I think that this can apply to all
versions...

I am not sure what happens to the email that get sent to the
distribution list, such as getting stored somewhere or whether or not
the spam source gets a return receipt.

In addition to Dolly's suggestion, you could set limits on the account
such as incoming and outgoing size limits of zero to make sure that
nothing gets stored on your server.

You can create a distribution list with no members in it. To the e mail
address tab and add the SMTP addresses for all that 5 non existing
accounts. Go to the advanced tab and hide this DL from GAL. Remember -
DO NOT ADD ANY MEMBER TO THIS DL.
