Exchange is the Cadillac of e-mail servers. However, you do not see many
Cadillacs pulling a gardening trailer do you?

Much to Mark's ir, you might want to look into using a 3rd party
gateway/spam filtering/virus blocking service.

Trying to create and maintain a rule set to fight spam, as the spammers will
always be steps ahead of you, unless you dedicate the time needed.

If you want to trial a product, one that I know about and helped on during
the beta periods is Alligate. http://www.alligate.com/ And no Mark, I am in
no way affiliated with them. If you do want to talk to them, ask for Brian
and mention my name.

Yea

But the exchange server was kind of expensive and it doesn't do such a good
job of filtering spam -so does that mean that we got what we paid for? You
would think an email server would do that piece well!

But I do understand your warning- isn't free better than nothing if it
blocks one email effectively? I am so sick of SPAM and the filtering on
Exchange 2000 isn't worth much really.

WARNING! Fighting spam and free are opposites.

If you expect to be able to do this for free, you are not serious about
fighting spam.

It is going to cost, either in time or technology, or both.

It is like the old saying, you get what you pay for.

Marvin

Let me know if this turns out to be the problem - I am looking for a free
way to filter spam that doesn't cut off communications with the rest of the
world - so if this is not the culprit - I may try it too!

Yep. Turns out they're using GFI mail essentials which may be sending it to
another folder. Checking now.

Are you using Exchange filtering at all for spam -

I tried this and then suddenly certain clients could not get their email to
go through - I had to remove all the filters and start over -

I have a strange problem where I'm not getting mail from all external users.
I have exchange 2000 server and it appears as though it's configured
correctly in that I can get mail from some external users and not all nor am
I getting any NDR's.
