I have a DNS server setup for internal domain. My ISP handles the public
DNS.

Handles both DNS servers for your network?

OK, I'll try to be more clear I can ping from inside to my.domain.com
but when I try mail.my.domain.com I get host unknown. Outside the
domain when I try to ping my.domain.com I get request timed out and then
when I try mail.my.domain.com I get host unknown. I don't think
mail.my.domain.com has anything to do with my server being it is host
unknown. So I think we should just be talking about my.domain.com. I am
not dialing into the server just to the internet connection. Does that
help?

When you are pinging from the outside dialing in do you get request
timed out or host not found? You see if you get host not found it's
definitely DNS problem if it is request timed out it most likely is a
connection problem some where, could be a firewall blocking it etc.

I can ping it from inside the LAN but when I go home or Dial up from a
remote location I can no longer ping it. I think this is why I cannot
connect to it either (Exchange).

What we are trying to determine here is, a network connection, or a DNS
problem.
thanks

If I ping my.domain.com I get request timed out. If I ping
mail.my.domain.com I get unknown host.

Does anyone know or maybe could step me in the right direction, why I am
not able to ping my server? I am setup with a public IP and my ISP
controls the DNS and MX records. Do I need to call them and ask them
why I can't ping or is it something in my setup?

Thank You,
Amy
