This helps the server mailbox from filling up. OST files are a replica of your real time server mailbox. So, while OST files are useful for working offline on your server mailbox, and better performance while connecting over a slow link, PST file are still needed for archiving. The best practice would be to create PST files that are not overly large, keep a good backup of your PST files, such as burning them onto DVD etc. HTH.
