I think it would work OK on identical hardware, but not in this case.
This just smells of a bad idea. The potential for issues down the road
is greatly increased and would probably be tough to correct.

I am afraid that windows 2000 system state won't work fine if you use it
on a different machine. Someone correct me please

Hello Everyone :
Ok I have took follwing action to rebuild the server :
  (1) Using NTBackup I have backed up the old server c drive, System
State and E drive where my Mail box reside.
  (2) Install Windows 2000 Advance server to new machine with proper
drivers
  (3) Attached the backup unit and configure it
  (4) Run NTBackup on new server and restore C Drive (System Drive)
  (5) Again run NTBACKUP and restore SYSTEM STATE
After Restoring it ask me to restart and when I restarted the new
machine I get this error message.

I guess you are using system state from old server and try to restore on
new one. With windows 2003 it's close to impossible due to hardware
changes especially on hard drive. Please give more detailed steps that
you have taken so we can help

Hello everyone :
  I have 2 windows 2000 server one is runing as PDC and other DC.  The
PDC
server is hosting Exchange 2000 and it is compaq old server about 3 yrs.

Now we have new compaq sever that is kind of blad model.  I want to move
my PDC and exchange to this new server.
  I have followed each and evey steps of Disaster recovery that was on
www.msexchange.org/pages/article_p.asp?id=7 by Will Schmid.  But when i
have restarted the server I get NTOSKRNL.EXE error and telling me to
reinstall.  After restoring system volume and system partion.  After
completing each step it had ask me to restart the server and I have.  Am
I
doing anything wrong.  I am using NTBACKUP to back up my old server and
restoring my new server.
  I will appriciate any help and guidunce in such recovery.  Thanks a
million in advance.
