Have you search the MS KB for that error message? Have you checked the items
in that KB?

2 possible problems: One is a misconfiguration on the client. One is
possible that the ISP of the user is blocking outbound port 25, in which
case the user on that ISP will have to use the outgoing SMTP server of the
ISP. Some ISPs are doing this in an effort to stop/reduce viruses and spam.

Hi John

this is the message I'm getting :

Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account:
'email.psu.edu', Server: 'email.psu.edu', Protocol: POP3, Server Response:
'-ERR Unknown command: "auth".', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

What kind of error is she getting?

Most likely, SMTP server requires Authentication is not checked on the
client.

I need help on setting up pop3 for external email , I have this user who
wants to access her email from an outside company (university). I tried

Can you help me with the settings , which one should be my incoming server
and my out going server. I think maybe I mixing up the ip addresses .

Is this safe? which is the best option to do this?

thanks

Lettah
