To answer your other question....

emails someone in YOUR organisation sends to undeliverable or non-existent
addresses are handled by your ISP's mail server since you are relaying
through a smart host.

That person will get an NDR from the ISP's mail server and Yours.

Another thing Richard and all Exchange 2K Server Brethern,
How can I enable the Exchange server to forward all NDR mails to my
account, say that some one sends a mail destined for a mailbox that does
not exist on the server... how can I enable the server to froward the
mail to my account as well.
Please note that we are using the DNS services of our service provider
(relay mails to the smart host), when i send a mail to a non-existent
account I get a reply as below.
So in this case whose MTA is doing the auto-reply of NDR to the
reciepients and how can I enable the server to be able to recieve a copy
of any mails bound for a non-existent mailbox on my domain and at the
same time send an NDR to the sender.

Regards

The organisation name is at the very top of the hierarchical structure
in the Exchange System Manager.

The Exchange Server name will be the same as your Windows 2000 Server
name, unless you have renamed it.

You can locate the physical location of the Information store files by
checking:

Administrative Groups > Servers > Servername >First Storage Group

and then right clicking on "First Storage Group" and choosing
Properties.
This will tell you the location of the: "Transaction Log File" and the
"System Path location"

The actual databases for the Information store can found by doing the
following:

Go to...
Administrative Groups > Servers > Servername >First Storage Group >
Mailbox Store
and right click on the Mailbox store, select "Database"
here you will see that paths to the Exchange database "Priv1.edb" this
is Private Information Store file that contains all the mailboxes.
You can dismount this store by right clicking on the "Maibox Store" and
selecting Dismount.

Hope this helps.

and the logical databse name... the white paer says that it should be
visible when using the exchange system manager... but I think I am more
blind.... can some one please help me to find out what the name and the
other detials are...
Thanks

I think your best bet here is to do the following:

1.The hardware does not have to be identical.
2.Install the OS to be identical as that of the original (easier if you
have a system state backup)
3.Install Exchange to be identical setup to the original (you must
re-create all the mailboxes again though if you did not have a system
state backup to restore)
4.Dismount the Information store
5.Restore from your backup the folders containing the information store
data.
5.Re-mount the Information store.

This is in essence what you require to do.
The instructions are not exact and the procedure may differ slightly
depending on your setup.

Hope this helps.

Further reading on the subject can be found at:
http://ftp.support.veritas.com/pub/support/products/Backup_Exec_for_Wind
owsNT/BeAdmin86_240870.pdf
This is a download pdf format documentation of Backup Exec and agents.
It outlines procedures for exchange backup and restore and may of of
some help to you.

I have not done this, but we have just recently helped another Exchange
administrator on site implement Tivoli back up for our server.

From what I understand about restoring the IS, is that it would need to
be
put on a server that is identical to the existing server. I hope that
someone else who has more experience, can assist you with this issue.
Good
luck!

Hello to all Exchange Guru's
I have to restore the mail of a single user from the information
store.... my presumption .. its not possible without restoring the
entire information store... and the backup has been performed on
ArcServe without the brock level option.
I want to restore the entire information store (If it comes to that ) on
a different machien that has entirely different hardware specs from the
actual machine. I have recreated a compleltely different active
directory..now I need help as to how to proceed.. can I install exchange
on that machine with the new active directory (new domain contrller in a
physoically different network) and restore then install exchange and
then restore the information store on that machine...??
Please help
