I myself would prefer to delete the accounts altogether but management says not to. This way I can deal with any issues and be done with it. I'm thinking that disassociating the mailbox from the account leaves the mail intact in case the user, for some odd reason, need to access something from his/her mail? If so how is this done? -----Original Message----- From: Mulnick, Al [mailto:Al.Mulnick@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2004 10:03 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Handling deleted user email accounts http://www.MSExchange.org/ Any reason why you chose to disable the account (Active Directory account) vs. deleting? I would think that disassociating the mailbox from the account would be a good answer in this case. Will that work in your environment? The problem I have with ignoring the errors is that it leads to bad habits such as ignoring other entries or losing things in the sea of entries. I'm not particululary fond of that concept as I've been bitten long ago. I show a ton of warnings in the Application viewer stating event ID 9548. Disabled user /O=domain/ou=site/cn=recipients/cn=username does not have a master account SID. Please use AD MMC to set an active account as this user's master account. We have a policy in place to leave the disabled for 30 days. Is it best to just ignore the errors in the event log or can the accounts themselves also be disabled to prevent the errors from appearing? Looking at the Exchange Tasks on the account it only gives an option to Move or Delete the mailbox. Hopefully this doesn't come across as too dumb of a question for a response.
